"Hirudinea began in 1999. A rehearsal demo cd-r was released in 2002 (sold out). The Hirudinea/Watchmaker split cd was finally released June 2006 on Bestial Onslaught Productions." Photo: Returntothepit.com A herd of elephants high on heavy metal! In October of 2007, Gregg Harvey (ex-inflicted) met up with his long time friend John Dellicicchi after many years, and decided to start a black/death metal project together. Years go by of frustrations and coming and going of members. Only after recruiting the madman guitarist Loki from the recently split thrash band The Accursed, do they come across Allan Benoit in February of 2009 and finally form the core of the band. But after some time passes Loki has to retreat from the band due to personal reasons, leaving only Gregg, John and Allan looking for a guitarist and vocalist. With 3 songs done and ready for vocals, and guitar extras they were on the hunt for the last 2 pieces of this puzzle, and as luck would have it, the melodic death band Withered Sun had just broken up and left vocalist Jonathan Helme (ex-The Accursed as well), and guitarist Rob Schweitzer without a band. After showing interest in the band, they asked Jonathan to join on vocals then Rob to hit the 6 strings. Coming together the band was formed in November of 2009. Being nameless for all of this time together, it was time to breath new life into the band. The name game was tough goings for the band. Name after name was taken, or was to clichİ. Coming up with Sauriel, was a stroke of luck in itself, (the members of the band actually read books). With a new name, a full line up and songs like Horns Ov War, Ritualistic Circles and Master Ov Aeonic Fire, Sauriel will be a blackened death metal force to be reckoned with. The slaughter is coming, for we are the lions to your lambs..

Friday Night Magic Meetup
I should have a somewhat open evening this Friday to host a magic meetup at my place. I hope that I won't have to cancel again (sorry that I've been so busy recently!!). We've had a bunch of new members join the group so I'm hoping that a few of them could possibly attend this day! The goal is to basically hang out, exchange some magical knowledge, and see where it goes from there.

HEADROOM
MISS GEO AND THE METRICS
ALEX PASHOIAN BAND

Hailing from the outskirts of the Green Line in Boston, Headroom is a live project that translates the harsh realities and pleasant subtleties of everyday life into a conglomerated series of frequencies spiced with spontaneous creativity, hazy time passage, the strength of cannons and the smell of roses. A four piece band made up of children of the 70 s who were born in the 80 s, their music, which emphasizes the energy associated with the live performance, tends to find its home somewhere in the spectrum between jazz fusion and rock, and highlights the musicianship of the individual members in a way that reflects their improvisatory nature. The band is a staple in the Boston rock club scene as well as parties in their friends basements and backyards.

Introduction to Burlesque
No previous experience is necessary. This series of classes was designed and created with the novice dancer in mind, but experienced dancers looking to learn classic burlesque moves and techniques will also greatly benefit.

Through a series of lessons and demonstrations which build upon one another, students will learn the fundamentals of of burlesque dance. At the end of the course, you will have the building blocks to create your own fun and flirty dance routine. Over the four weeks we'll discuss burlesque-related topics like music selection, the art of costuming, and performing for an audience. Burlesque is a terrific form of expression for any woman. It builds confidence, comfort with your own body and it's great exercise too!

This is a four-session course. All classes are from 8 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. and are taught at B.A.B.E. (119 Braintree St., #208, Allston, MA 02134).

Cost:

Drop-in Students: No registration is required, just come on over. Each class is designed to stand alone. The drop-in fee is $30 and must be paid in cash to the instructor at the beginning of the session.

Pre-paid Students: Register and pay for the class on-line at least 24 hours before the class starts and save $5.00 Please Note: there are no refunds or transfers if you pre-register and cannot attend. Pre-registration is $25 and can be done on-line for one class or multiple classes!

Course Commitment: Pre-register for the entire course before Monday, Sept. 6 for just $85.00 -- a savings of $35 over the drop-in students. Please Note: there are no refunds or transfers if you pre-register for the course and cannot attend any or all classes.

To register for the full course, please select "Monday, September 13" as the date you wish to register for, and then select the "EARLY BIRD" ticket.

Sessions:

Session #1 (Monday, September 13)
: Week One starts things off right with some Burlesque Basics. You'll learn that classic burlesque move, The Bump, plus how to turn your everyday steps in struts and slinky walks. For the striptease lesson, you'll be learning how to remove Long Gloves. We'll have some loaner gloves available, but if you've got a pair of your own, please bring them!

Session #2 (Monday, September 20): This week's move is The Grind, those oh-so teasing and pleasing types of hip circles that are essential to classic burlesque. Combine it with Week One's lesson, you get the classic "bump 'n' grind".

Week Two's striptease lessons are on Skirts and Shirts. Please bring a skirt with a zipper and a blouse with buttons. Since you'll be removing your clothes, you may want to wear shorts or leggings and a tank top underneath or fancy lingerie, depending on your comfort level.

Session #3 (Monday, September 27): This week's move is The Shimmy, how to quiver and shake to the delight of your audience. We'll continue to build up our movement vocabulary that now includes both bumps and grinds.
Week Three's striptease lesson is all about Stockings. Please bring a pair of thigh-high stockings to class. After we practice the provocative stocking remove, you'll learn some Floorwork to highlight your lovely gams.

Session #4 (Monday, October 4): This week's move is Tassel Twirling -- the ultimate burlesque trick! You will need to bring pasties with tassels to class for this. We'll have a few pairs to lend and some for sale. If you're uncomfortable appearing in just pasties, please wear a close-fitting tank-top under your bra and affix the pasties to that. It's harder to twirl, but we don't want anyone struggling beyond their comfort level.

Week Four's striptease lesson is Removing a Bra. Please bring a back-fastening bra to class. See the above note about pasties and comfort levels. That applies here too.

For extra fun, we'll be playing with Feather Boas, that quintessential burlesque accessory. If you have a boa, by all means bring it. We'll also have some loner boas and a few for purchase.

Circles

"CIRCLES" is a new tuesday night dance experiment. It offers a platform for creative, intelligent and artistic people to express themselves and let loose without inhibition. No corny themes, pimply faced high school seniors or weekend warriors, Circles is very much an exclusive adult event for the imaginative and the boundary pushers. Resident DJ Mike McKay better known as Mistaker and even better known for his Together festival, No Tomorrow and Thunderdome parties, now adds Circles to his outrageously unique and often off-center list of parties. Expect a spectrum of seemlessly blended beats from electro to dubstep and anthematic indie remixes.
